WHAT I WORE | LEATHER & LILAC

Coat - Primark
Shirt & Trousers - New Look
Rings - H&M
Bag - LYDC

This is my definition of a 'shopping outfit', ie. it's comfy & casual but still looks good. I wore it during a recent mega-shopping day in Southampton. I love combining different textures right now, I think the coated, leather-look jeans and soft lilac coat work really well together.

The shirt is one of my best 'January sale' purchases - £7 from New Look. I'm loving monochrome at the moment so it's perfect for me. Teaming this outfit with Converse also makes it feel more casual, and lends itself to a day of trawling the shops!

SKINCARE | BUDGET MOISTURISER DUO: BOTANICS

Love From Lisa Botanics All Bright Day & Night Cream
Love From Lisa Botanics All Bright Day & Night Cream
Love From Lisa Botanics All Bright Day & Night Cream
(Currently on offer in Boots for £2.49)

As nice as it is to splash out on some luxury skincare, sometimes the budget options can offer just as much. I've recently been on the lookout for some new moisturisers - particularly a new night cream that won't break the bank!

My skin is pretty normal; I get the odd spot every now and then and it's a bit dry in patches, but nothing major. After reading some good things about Boots Botanics I decided to give their 'All Bright' range a go. I have actually used the cleanser from this range and really enjoyed using it, but I always seem to forget about Botanics when I'm on the hunt for new skincare.

Now, the packaging is definitely nothing to write home about - annoyingly both the day and night creams look identical when they're out of the box - but then you do get what you pay for. I'm the first to get sucked in by gorgeous packaging, but with many luxury items you end up paying for that rather than the actual product!

The cream itself though is a pleasure to use. The night moisturiser is obviously of a thicker consistency, but it still absorbs very quickly and is non-greasy, so doesn't leave you feeling slathered in cream. The day cream is quite a bit thinner, as the photos show, so it sinks in super fast and means you're not waiting ages to apply make up in the morning! Although they absorb quickly I'm really impressed with how hydrating they both feel.

I also like that they're not over-perfumed or fragranced. The botanics range relies on 'the power of plants', and as a result the smell is very natural and fresh.

I've not been using these long enough to decide whether they've brightened up my complexion but even just as standard moisturisers they're definitely worth the price tag!

Have you tried anything from the Botanics range?

NAILS | DOTTY

Love From Lisa Grey & White Polka Dot Nail Art
Love From Lisa Grey & White Polka Dot Nail Art
Seventeen Gel Colour in Long Island

I do like to experiment with different nail art patterns, but the one I always come back to is polka dots. It's such an easy technique to master after a bit of practice and looks great in lots of colour combinations.

You also don't need an army of nail art tools, and if you're a bit shaky on one or two of the dots you probably won't notice when they're all done!

My favourite colour combinations are pastels with white dots, so for this one I've used my current obsession - soft, muted grey. Teamed with the white spots I think this has to be one of my favourite polka dot manicures.

PINSPIRATION - THE PINAFORE DRESS

Love From Lisa The Pinafore Dress
All images & sources here.
During the winter months I'm all for a bit of layering, so my latest want is a pinafore dress. Forget the 'school uniform' look, there are so many ways to wear this trend. I'm particularly loving the denim & delicate lace shirt combo, or teamed with a lightweight knit for a cute, casual look.

The pinafore is also a great transitional piece into spring/summer - layered over a cropped tee or vest would work just as well as a cute white shirt!

How would you style a pinafore dress?

I've talked before about my love for blanket wraps and when I saw this one I just had to get my hands on it! I think I'm drawn to them because they're so versatile and actually really easy to wear.

Layering up over a lighter jacket is my favourite way to wear this one - it's a perfect casual look and gives you a day off from winter coats, which I'm definitely getting bored of! It's also the perfect 'throw on' accessory for jazzing up a simple outfit.

What are your thoughts on blanket wraps?

NAILS | MONOCHROME

Love From Lisa Nails Monochrome
Seventeen Gel Colour in Long Island
Barry M Nail Paint in Matt White

I'm really into simple nail art at the moment with perhaps just one or two accent nails. This one was really easy to do once you've mastered the technique of straight lines - a bit tricky at first but practice makes perfect!

This grey shade is one of my all-time favourite nail polishes. It's the perfect grey, super chic and not at all dull. I also think it'd look good with a matte topcoat - maybe next time!

THE JANUARY EDIT | BLUES & GREYS

Love From Lisa The Janaury Edit | Blues & Greys

Links L-R: Sleeveless Jacket | Tube Skirt | Pleated Dress | Felt Fedora Hat | Sleeveless Frill Blouse | Grey Sleeveless Shirt | Blue Winged Bag | Fringed Cape | Culottes | Cotton Shirt
If you saw my 'January Nail Shades' post you'll notice this that one has a similar colour theme. Most of the high street stores have already started introducing their spring/summer collections, which has steered me away from deep tones in favour of some softer shades!

Rather than going all out in pastels though, I'm loving the cooler toned blues and greys. Grey is fast becoming my favourite colour; it suits pretty much everyone and, as a neutral shade, is so easy to wear and style.

I'm also looking forward to SS15 for the classic tailoring combined with soft knits and slouchy shirts. I'm particularly loving this ASOS fringed cape and the Topshop sleeveless jacket. They're both ideal for layering - perfect for moving into spring!

During the autumn months I'm all for deep, dark nail colours like burgundy and navy, but when January hits I reach for cooler-toned shades like greys and blues. They remind me of cold wintery days and those frosty mornings!

I'm particularly into white at the moment - I love it's crispness and cleanness, plus it always looks effortlessly cool.

UPDATING YOUR ROOM ON A BUDGET

Love From Lisa Updating your room on a budget
Love From Lisa Updating your room on a budget
Like many of you out there, the start of a brand new year makes me crave getting organised and starting afresh. I think one of the most important motivators is definitely having a tidy, relaxing environment to wind down in, sleep in, work in - or all three!

Towards the end of last year I decided I really wanted a room overhaul, but not having heaps of money going spare I've done it on a budget. These tips are also handy if you're heading back to uni & are after a few ways to personalise your standard room. It's so important to be in a space that feels like your own because you spend a whole lot of time there!

MAKE YOUR OWN WALL ART
My room just didn't feel finished until I'd put some frames and photos on the walls. I'm always lusting after gorgeous wall art online and in home departments but not being able to afford them I decided to make my own. I scoured Pinterest (literally a dream for interiors...) for inspiration, found a quote I liked, chose a font and stuck it in a frame - simple!

FAKE FLOWERS
There's not much I can say about these apart from that they're super cheap, instantly brighten up a space and you can combine any colours and flowers you like. I bought them in bunches then separated and arranged them in different jars and vases I had lying around.

IT'S ALL IN THE ACCESSORIES
It's true! I love shopping for home accessories because they really can make a space. I always found that cute accessories were important for personalising my uni rooms. All of my cushions are from Primark at around £3 each - you can't go wrong! Bargain shops are also unlikely places to find gorgeous bedroom pieces.

FEATURE WALL
Doesn't everyone love a good feature wall? Not only do they look great though, they're also very cost effective as wallpaper can be pretty expensive! If you've got a little alcove or corner in your room like mine, patterned wallpaper is perfect for making a feature of it.

Have you got any tips for decorating on a budget?

There's something I particularly love about layering up with chunky knits and opaque tights in winter. I think it's because I get so tired of deciding on an outfit and then covering it up with a big ol' winter coat.

Big scarves have become my thing this winter, as well as blanket capes. I've accumulated two over Christmas and have got my sights set on more so expect to see a few of those in the coming weeks...

NAILS | 'FEARNE' METALLIC SILVER

Love From Lisa Nails | Metallic Silver
To say trying to get a good photo of these was impossible would be a hell of an understatement. Anyone else finding the January weather awful for taking photos in..?

I got this Fearne Cotton nail polish for Christmas in one of those Boots gift sets. Not being a 'proper' nail brand I was dubious about the quality, but I've been pleasantly surprised. My nails are hugely prone to chipping but I've had this on for about 5 days now and the damage is minimal.

I also love metallic polishes and have wanted to get my hands on a silver for a while. It applies quite nicely, although it does leave a few brush marks, but after a second coat I'm pretty pleased with the result!

Have you tried any of the Fearne polishes?

SIX FROM THE SALES

Love them or hate them, the January sales are a great place to pick up a bargain. I tend to do most of my shopping in the stores because I like to see and feel things, plus I hate the fuss of returns and receipts! During sale season though, online shopping can offer things that you can't get in stores and often has a greater range of sizes and colours.

These six are some of the best pieces I've found in the online sales. A particular favourite is the cute mini duffle bag. I also think the tailored coat is great value for money - it looks like amazing quality and the style is classic so would last a long time. Plus it was £95! As well as grabbing a cheap bargain, the sales are great for bagging investment pieces at more purse-friendly prices!
