3 SEVENTIES INSPIRED SPRING LOOKS

Walk into any high-street store and it's obvious that all things 70s are going to be huge this spring/summer, and I'm really excited about it because it just screams fun, summer and sun! There are so many ways to work this retro trend - suede, florals, fringing, flares, platforms etc, so there really is something for everyone. Below are a few of my favourite 70s inspired looks...

Lace Top | Flared Jeans | Platforms | Sunglasses | Belt
Sleeveless Top | Button Skirt | Kimono | Hat | Boots
Maxi | Cardigan | Boots | Bag

NAILS | NUDE & POLKA DOTS

Barry M Nail Paint in Nude

Polka dots are one of my favourite nail art designs because they're really easy to do. To change things up a little bit, rather than going for a stronger base colour, I chose a really subtle, barely-there nude. I think it works really well with the dark spots.

The nude polish I used was a Barry M Nail Paint. It's quite a thin polish, so if you want something opaque, you might need to do a few coats. I did about 3 to get this coverage, but it applies really well and dries quickly too!

Jumper - New Look
Skirt - River Island
Jacket - Dorothy Perkins
Bag - Primark
Boots - River Island

At this time of year I love mixing textures and prints, like this soft grey knit and leather jacket. Layering up as it starts to get slightly warmer is my perfect alternative to heavy coats!

I picked up this skirt in the January sales for an amazing £10. I think the dark background shade is ideal for right now - it introduces florals and a spring-like feel without feeling too premature. Combining this with opaques and black ankle boots makes this my ideal pre-springtime outfit!

NAILS | VALENTINES INSPIRED

As an alternative to the traditional red & pink Valentines theme, I've gone for softer colours, more like the shades I normally wear, for my Valentines inspired nail art. I also think they're a little less in your face than big red love hearts!

Whenever I've seen written words on nails I always think it looks too difficult, but practice really does make perfect! These nail wheels are handy for practicing different techniques without messing up your own nails. I also like to try out different ideas so I can refer back to it when I need nail-art inspo!

FASHION | A WHITE SHIRT 3 WAYS

A classic white shirt is a typical wardrobe staple. I'd been searching for a well-fitting one for a while, and after finding it, it got me thinking about different ways to wear it. I usually tend to reach for my jeans, but it's always good to have a bit of a shake-up and wear pieces in ways you normally wouldn't - plus it means you can get a few outfits out of one item...
Shirt | Jumper | Skirt | Necklace | Shoes

I fell in love with this midi skirt after spotting it on a cheeky shopping trip - I'm a little bit obsessed with stripes. The fifties midi-skirt shape is everywhere at the moment, so it's a perfect piece to see you into spring. I wasn't sure how I'd wear this trend initially but I think teaming it with a fitted jumper and a hint of a collar peeking out is a cute way to do it.

Shirt | Dress | Boots | Bag | Hat

You might've seen my post a few weeks back about another thing I'm lusting after - the pinafore dress. I think this is the perfect work outfit; it's preppy and cool but still girly and feminine. This would also look gorgeous with a denim pinafore if you're after a more casual look.

Shirt | Trousers | Jacket | Shoes
I'm always a huge fan of cigarette trousers, particularly printed ones. This gorgeous pair are from Topshop and I love the big, bold floral pattern. I think the crisp white shirt and tailored duster jacket work beautifully with the fun print!

How would you style a white shirt?

Hopscotch

As soon as I see a 'clearance' aisle in Boots I'm immediately drawn in, because among the broken lipsticks and opened cosmetics, you can grab an excellent bargain! My most recent is this Ciate Beauty Bus (find it here) which includes six mini Ciate nail polishes, for a purse friendly £7.

Unusually for a beauty set I actually love all of the shades, especially for summer, and I'm a sucker for a glitter polish. I've not yet used them on my nails but on the nail wheel they applied smoothly and needed two coats for a nice opaque finish.

I've not tried any Ciate polishes before, so I'm super excited to give these a go. This cute little set would also make a gorgeous gift for someone - for just over £1 a polish you can't really go wrong!

Did you grab any beauty bargains in the January sales?

WHAT I WORE | LEATHER & LILAC

Coat - Primark
Shirt & Trousers - New Look
Rings - H&M
Bag - LYDC

This is my definition of a 'shopping outfit', ie. it's comfy & casual but still looks good. I wore it during a recent mega-shopping day in Southampton. I love combining different textures right now, I think the coated, leather-look jeans and soft lilac coat work really well together.

The shirt is one of my best 'January sale' purchases - £7 from New Look. I'm loving monochrome at the moment so it's perfect for me. Teaming this outfit with Converse also makes it feel more casual, and lends itself to a day of trawling the shops!

SKINCARE | BUDGET MOISTURISER DUO: BOTANICS

Love From Lisa Botanics All Bright Day & Night Cream
Love From Lisa Botanics All Bright Day & Night Cream
Love From Lisa Botanics All Bright Day & Night Cream
(Currently on offer in Boots for £2.49)

As nice as it is to splash out on some luxury skincare, sometimes the budget options can offer just as much. I've recently been on the lookout for some new moisturisers - particularly a new night cream that won't break the bank!

My skin is pretty normal; I get the odd spot every now and then and it's a bit dry in patches, but nothing major. After reading some good things about Boots Botanics I decided to give their 'All Bright' range a go. I have actually used the cleanser from this range and really enjoyed using it, but I always seem to forget about Botanics when I'm on the hunt for new skincare.

Now, the packaging is definitely nothing to write home about - annoyingly both the day and night creams look identical when they're out of the box - but then you do get what you pay for. I'm the first to get sucked in by gorgeous packaging, but with many luxury items you end up paying for that rather than the actual product!

The cream itself though is a pleasure to use. The night moisturiser is obviously of a thicker consistency, but it still absorbs very quickly and is non-greasy, so doesn't leave you feeling slathered in cream. The day cream is quite a bit thinner, as the photos show, so it sinks in super fast and means you're not waiting ages to apply make up in the morning! Although they absorb quickly I'm really impressed with how hydrating they both feel.

I also like that they're not over-perfumed or fragranced. The botanics range relies on 'the power of plants', and as a result the smell is very natural and fresh.

I've not been using these long enough to decide whether they've brightened up my complexion but even just as standard moisturisers they're definitely worth the price tag!

Have you tried anything from the Botanics range?

NAILS | DOTTY

Love From Lisa Grey & White Polka Dot Nail Art
Love From Lisa Grey & White Polka Dot Nail Art
Seventeen Gel Colour in Long Island

I do like to experiment with different nail art patterns, but the one I always come back to is polka dots. It's such an easy technique to master after a bit of practice and looks great in lots of colour combinations.

You also don't need an army of nail art tools, and if you're a bit shaky on one or two of the dots you probably won't notice when they're all done!

My favourite colour combinations are pastels with white dots, so for this one I've used my current obsession - soft, muted grey. Teamed with the white spots I think this has to be one of my favourite polka dot manicures.

PINSPIRATION - THE PINAFORE DRESS

Love From Lisa The Pinafore Dress
All images & sources here.
During the winter months I'm all for a bit of layering, so my latest want is a pinafore dress. Forget the 'school uniform' look, there are so many ways to wear this trend. I'm particularly loving the denim & delicate lace shirt combo, or teamed with a lightweight knit for a cute, casual look.

The pinafore is also a great transitional piece into spring/summer - layered over a cropped tee or vest would work just as well as a cute white shirt!

How would you style a pinafore dress?

I've talked before about my love for blanket wraps and when I saw this one I just had to get my hands on it! I think I'm drawn to them because they're so versatile and actually really easy to wear.

Layering up over a lighter jacket is my favourite way to wear this one - it's a perfect casual look and gives you a day off from winter coats, which I'm definitely getting bored of! It's also the perfect 'throw on' accessory for jazzing up a simple outfit.

What are your thoughts on blanket wraps?

NAILS | MONOCHROME

Love From Lisa Nails Monochrome
Seventeen Gel Colour in Long Island
Barry M Nail Paint in Matt White

I'm really into simple nail art at the moment with perhaps just one or two accent nails. This one was really easy to do once you've mastered the technique of straight lines - a bit tricky at first but practice makes perfect!

This grey shade is one of my all-time favourite nail polishes. It's the perfect grey, super chic and not at all dull. I also think it'd look good with a matte topcoat - maybe next time!

THE JANUARY EDIT | BLUES & GREYS

Love From Lisa The Janaury Edit | Blues & Greys

Links L-R: Sleeveless Jacket | Tube Skirt | Pleated Dress | Felt Fedora Hat | Sleeveless Frill Blouse | Grey Sleeveless Shirt | Blue Winged Bag | Fringed Cape | Culottes | Cotton Shirt
If you saw my 'January Nail Shades' post you'll notice this that one has a similar colour theme. Most of the high street stores have already started introducing their spring/summer collections, which has steered me away from deep tones in favour of some softer shades!

Rather than going all out in pastels though, I'm loving the cooler toned blues and greys. Grey is fast becoming my favourite colour; it suits pretty much everyone and, as a neutral shade, is so easy to wear and style.

L-R: Fendi | Temperley London | Rick Owens | Honor

I'm also looking forward to SS15 for the classic tailoring combined with soft knits and slouchy shirts. I'm particularly loving this ASOS fringed cape and the Topshop sleeveless jacket. They're both ideal for layering - perfect for moving into spring!
