Love From Lisa Tips for Creating a Work Wardrobe
As I'm no longer a student and about to start an internship, over the past few weeks I've slowly been trying to build up a work wardrobe. Doing this post has made me realise I've got quite a few options now when it comes to smarter clothes and the pieces actually work quite well together! If you're about to enter the world of work, shopping for smart outfits can be both expensive and stressful so here are my tips for starting a work wardrobe!

1. DON'T FORGET WHAT YOU ALREADY OWN
Chances are you already own quite a few clothes so don't forget about them when thinking about work outfits! You might have tops that can be smartened up with different trousers and accessories or a great blazer that'd be perfect for work.

2. CHOOSE ITEMS THAT WORK WELL TOGETHER
Creating a kind of capsule wardrobe is a good idea because you'll get more outfits out of your items if they can be interchanged and worn with different things. I chose boots and a jacket in styles that work well with different outfits. As I add to my wardrobe I'll carry on the same kind of style.

3. SHOP OVER A PERIOD OF TIME
Don't put pressure on yourself to buy an entire work wardrobe in one shopping trip. I've bought these items over a few weeks which made it more enjoyable. Shopping online can also be a good idea - order lots and just return what you don't like.

4. SET YOURSELF A BUDGET
If you're pretty much starting from scratch it'll probably be expensive. But if you set a reasonable budget and stick to it you (hopefully) won't feel as guilty about buying things! Also if you do shop over a period of time it'll make it more purse-friendly.

5. REMEMBER ACCESSORIES
Buying staple accessories such as a statement bag or cute fedora hat are easy ways to update different outfits and make it feel like you've got more of a choice. Although I've chosen items that are similar tones I've gone for a pastel shade bag to add colour.

TRANSITIONAL PIECES: LIGHTWEIGHT JACKETS

Love From Lisa Transitional Pieces: Lightweight Jackets

Fashion between seasons can be quite tricky. Although it's definitely getting cooler and the nights are getting longer, it's not quite time to start shopping parkas and woolly jumpers. Over the next few weeks I'll take you through the key transitional pieces I'll be wearing in the lead up to autumn.

A lightweight jacket is definitely a must-have item for September. A classic style that can be thrown over anything is a perfect transitional piece. This season it's all about duster coats which are full-length, lightweight jackets without buttons. I love these in pale pinks and blues - ideal as pastel shades are set to last through 'till winter!

If you're after a more classic style the trench coat is perfect for this in-between season. If you invest in a good one it'll last for years and years and not date! These jackets are great for throwing over dresses now and layering up with thick jumpers as the weather gets colder.

Although we're heading into autumn/winter, wardrobes needn't turn black and grey! Pastels have been huge this year and apparently they're not going away any time soon. This gorgeous pastel blue satchel is a perfect transitional piece - beautiful now with summer dresses and little jackets and lovely in the colder months with autumn's chunky scarves and pastel coats.

Also a quick word about the top - I love simple items that work for so many different occasions and with so many different things. This one is such a classic style and looks effortless. I initially bought it for formal occasions but I also love how it looks with jeans and a statement necklace.

NAIL RESCUE ESSENTIALS

I try to keep my nails in good condition, but sometimes when I haven't had the time to take care of them properly they start looking a little worse for wear. I have a few essential products that I turn to when my nails are in need of a bit TLC...

Multi-Sided Nail File & Buffer
Filing and shaping your nails is essential for keeping your nails strong. Maintaining a good shape helps them to grow and prevents them from catching on things and tearing. Buffing the nail bed is also important for ensuring a smooth surface to apply nail polish.

Cuticle Stick & Cuticle Oil
It's easy to forget about cuticles but it's important to take good care of them too. A good manicure can be ruined by messy, uneven cuticles. Pushing them back gently and applying a good nail oil or cream will keep them looking healthy.

Sally Hansen 14 Day Nail Shields
These are my holy grail nail product. They work like nail wraps, only they're transparent so you can leave them as they are or apply nail polish on top. The strips are pre-treated which protects the nails and prevents them peeling or chipping. I like to use these when my nails are in need of a special treat. (You can pick these up in Savers for £1)

Sally Hansen Continuous Hardening Treatment
Sometimes my nails can get a bit weak and start to peel easily, so a good hardening treatment is a must. I don't use this and the shields simultaneously, it's one or the other. I use this every other day for a week and it just helps get a little bit of growth.

Soap & Glory Endless Glove Moisture Mask & Hand Cream
Technically this isn't for nails, but keeping skin moisturised is important for overall hand-health! Plus a good manicure needs a nice blank canvas to begin with. This one smells delicious and leaves hands soft and supple.

What are your nail care essentials?

TREND FOCUS: BACKPACKS

Love From Lisa Trend Focus Backpacks

I'm pretty sure everyone had a backpack during their schooldays, although they weren't best known for scoring any fashion points! Now they're enjoying their time in the spotlight again - after undergoing a little bit of a makeover! They're still practical and comfortable yet they're also sleek, stylish and fun. As it's that back-to-school time of year where you might be heading to college, university or starting work, backpacks are a super-stylish way to do preppy geek-chic!

Whilst trawling the high-street websites, Accessorize and New Look definitely came out on top for their range of backpacks. Whether you're after something sophisticated and smart for work (number 1 &6) or a casual everyday bag for all your essentials (number 7), there's something for everyone!

Will backpacks be making a comeback in your A/W wardrobe?

If you're a regular reader you'll know I'm quite into nails and nail art. Although I love sporting floral and patterned designs, recently I've been favouring a more minimal and chic look. These designs are obviously a lot simpler than intricate patterns which means they require less time and patience!

For these designs I used muted pastel tones paired with black and white detailing, but they'd also look great in lots of colours and shades such as brights and neons.

FASHION | FLORAL NEW LOOK CO-ORDS

Top & Shorts - New Look
Sunglasses - H&M
Hat - Accessorize
Necklace - Topshop
Bag - Primark

Co-ords have been huge this summer and I for one, am a huge fan. They're super easy to wear and as they're separates can be styled in different ways with different items. I love how comfy this set is - perfect for a sunny day at the beach.

I've never really been into hats, but recently I've been brave enough to wear them. I've had this cute little straw hat for a few years and decided it was about time I wore it a bit more. With the sea breeze I thought I might be doing a bit of hat-chasing, but it actually proved pretty useful in preventing wild beach-hair!

TREND FOCUS | METALLICS

Love From Lisa - The Metallic Trend

Metallics have been on the fashion scene since spring, but it's still a hugely popular trend as we approach the end of summer. Mirrored accessories and shimmery fabrics add sheen and lustre to both daytime and nighttime looks and are also ideal for showing off a tan in late summer!

Accessories and shoes are the easiest and most wearable ways to do this trend - go for a cute clutch or some statement platforms. For the brave I think the ASOS pleated midi skirt is gorgeous. For a softer look I'd pair it with a white cami and cute sandals. If you're going for all over metallics like the jumpsuit I'd choose minimal accessories to keep from looking too 'space age'...

Barry M polishes are one of my favourite brands because they have a huge range of colours, are good quality and also really affordable. I don't tend to wear glitter unless it's Christmas time (which is when I bought this one), but I think with this gorgeous pastel pink it looks quite fresh and summery! What do you think?

I love being beside the sea! It's so beautiful and relaxing, and everyone just seems so much happier! I went for a little break with my bezzie and sister to Bournemouth - if you're looking for a pretty seaside town with gorgeous sandy beaches then Bournemouth is the one to go for. It's definitely my favourite, having spent lots of holidays here as a child.

This is the outfit I wore to dinner. The skirt is a couple of years old but I love how it looks with this season's bralet. Also the hat deserves a mention - I picked it up in the New Look sale a few days ago for a mere £3! I love how it completes this summery outfit, yet the colour will definitely see me through to autumn too.
