Nails of the Week | Jewels & Daisies

Models Own Hyper Gel in 'Lilac Sheen'

I fancied something super girly this week hence the flowers and gems. I think it's a lovely look for an occasion like a wedding or formal summer party. I'm really loving this lilac shade at the moment - the colour is so pretty! I also think the formula of the Hyper Gels is lovely - it's nice and thick, so even a light colour like this doesn't go streaky. It's pretty glossy on its own, but I applied a top coat for extra staying power. They're now so glossy it took me a frustratingly long time to get a photo where the light wasn't bouncing off them...!

Beauty | Current Everyday Base

Love From Lisa Current Everyday Base

I think the perfect summer make-up is simple and fresh. To achieve a natural look, I try not to use too many products during the warmer months, particularly because heat and heavy make-up are definitely not best friends. I've recently been using the same few products everyday to create a natural, dewy base.

Rather than wearing a heavy foundation, I've been loving the lightweight texture of this BB cream. It definitely has the feeling of a moisturiser and blends perfectly into the skin without feeling sticky or heavy. Obviously it doesn't offer the same coverage as a foundation, but I find that it does well with evening out my skintone and covering blemishes. I also love the tea tree scent!

As a lover of the Wake Me Up foundation I thought it was probably about time to try the concealer. In the past I've used the much-coveted Collection concealer, but I actually like this one a whole lot more! Like the foundation, it instantly brightens skin - perfect for the under-eyes which is where I need concealer most. It applies well and importantly doesn't leave you with that cakey, concealer look!

I love Natural Collection blushers for giving a natural glow to my cheeks. This particular shade is a gorgeous dusky pink - perfect for a subtle flush of colour. Plus you can't really go wrong at £1.99!

Cute linen shorts and a crisp sleeveless shirt are staples for any summer wardrobe - they can be worn with so many other items but also look chic together. I really like the simplicity of this outfit; I love that it's a stylish alternative to florals and brights for summer and is perfect for a chilled shopping day!

As it's a super simple combo, it's all in the details with this one. The gorgeous crochet bag is ideal for daytime and will go with so many outfits. I also love the Topshop necklace - the style is quite unusual and adds a subtle hint of colour to a neutral look.

Trend of the Week | The Skort

Love From Lisa Trend of the Week The Skort
left-right: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6
Along with kimonos, skorts (shorts that look like skirts) are definitely one of the must-have items this season! More formal than shorts and probably more practical than skirts these are a gorgeous summer staple wardrobe piece. The distinctive wrap-around style means that you could team it with a simple cami and sandals for a gorgeous summer day-to-night look.

I've definitely got my eye on the floral New Look pair (number 4). I love the beautiful summer colours and think it'd actually be pretty versatile - I'm thinking summer drinks or a balmy holiday evening! I also love the pink River Island pair (number 5) as a way of doing shorts less casually.

What do you think of the skort?

Nails Inc Gel Effect Polish in Covent Garden Place

I love this gorgeously bright pink shade from Nails Inc's Gel Effect Polish range. It was sent to me for winning the #manicuremonday Twitter competition and it's such a perfect summer shade! I own another of the Gel Effect polishes and I love how they apply and how long they last. They give a slight 'plumping effect' which gives the impression of gel nails without the need for UV lights. They also give a lovely super-glossy finish! I decided to go simple this week but couldn't resist some small gems to add a little something extra.

The Summer Essentials #2

Love From Lisa The Summer Essentials #2
Sandals - New Look
I bought theses sandals a few weeks ago and I've worn them pretty much non-stop ever since! They're so simple but they're cute and go with literally everything - jeans, shorts, dresses you name it! They also come in black which I might have to get my hands on too! Being white, I thought they might get a bit dirty, but I've been on picnics and walks and they just wipe clean if you get any dirt on them - perfect for summer!

Satsuma Body Butter - The Body Shop
A good body butter is a must for me in the summer and I haven't found any better than the Body Shop ones! They make my skin super-soft and also smell SO delicious. My favourites at the moment are the satsuma, papaya and raspberry flavours.

Toni & Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray
I don't like to use too much heat on my hair, especially in the summer as the sun dries it out enough! To get natural beachy waves, texturising sprays are ideal. I'm loving the Toni & Guy spray at the moment - it smells lovely, gives my hair natural waves and doesn't leave my hair feeling dry or crispy!

If you've been shopping recently you'll know that kimonos are everywhere right now! Although I'd love to buy some of the gorgeous styles in the shops at the moment, I already own this one from a few years ago so thought I'd make good use of it. I'm loving this trend for summer - kimonos are so easy to wear yet still look effortlessly stylish. My summer style is quite boho, which kimonos are obviously perfect for! They're also great for dressing up a plain outfit - I teamed mine with a plain vest and denim shorts, which are an absolute staple for summer! This pair are my sister's as I'm currently on the lookout for some myself. This definitely proves that an old outfit can be updated with a gorgeous bright print for summer!

Rimmel 60 Seconds Polish - Euphoria
Models Own Hyper Gel Polish - Lilac Sheen

My sister has to take full credit for these amazing nails! I wanted something different to what I usually have and spotted some dreamcatcher nails on pinterest, so we decided to have a go at our own! As festival season is approaching I'm really into boho style at the moment and these are a perfect summer nail art design. Although they look really intricate, with a good nail art pen and a steady hand it can be done!

We used one of the Models Own Hyper Gel shades for this design, which I hadn't used before. The formula is really lovely to use - it applies so smoothly and after two coats was completely opaque. The colour is a gorgeous pastel lilac which I think is perfect for summer - I'm definitely going to be using it a lot. Rather than using this shade for all nails, we went for a shimmery Rimmel London polish for the feathers

I finished this design off with a Nails Inc top coat to add a glossy finish and to make them last longer. I love this design as it's a great alternative to flowers and bright colours for summer nails.

Trend of the Week: Slider Sandals

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7

Probably the biggest footwear trend this summer is sliders (I think they're called this as you literally slide your foot in and out). After searching through many high-street websites looking at these shoes I'm still undecided as to whether I like them or not!

As with many trends this season, they come straight from the 90s - I seem to remember having a red pair with a small wedge and thinking they were SO cool! I think this look is one of those that's supposed to be kind of 'uncool' but made stylish. I'm not a huge fan of the number 3 'jelly' ones, although they'd probably be great on holiday, or the mule-type number 4's - I just have no idea how I'd wear them! The floral Miss Selfridge pair (6) are probably my favourites, I'd team them with denim shorts or skinny jeans for a casual, laid-back look.

For me, I think I'd have to see what they looked like on my feet - for example I can't decide whether number 1 would look quite stylish on or just a bit ugly! However, a big plus point to these is that they'd be mega comfy! This is why I think they'd be perfect for holidays or for travelling. To give a summer look an on-trend, casual edge these shoes would probably be great, but I'm still kind of undecided!

What do you think of sliders?

Bralet - New Look
Bow Headband - New Look (pack of 2)
Flower Headband - Claire's Accessories
H&M Nail Polish - Chica Boom Boom
Models Own - Coral Reef
Essie - In The Cab-Ana

It feels like we've been thrown into summer all of a sudden and I'm definitely loving it! So I thought I'd put together a few posts showcasing some of my summer essentials, enjoy!

I really didn't think I'd ever be into bralets, but I saw this one in New Look the other day and thought it was so pretty. I love the lace detail at the bottom and think the buttons and neckline are so cute. This is definitely going to be a staple item for me this summer - it'll look great with this season's biggest item, the kimono. I'll be teaming it with a skater skirt or high-waisted denim shorts as I'm not brave enough to flash the flesh!

I'll admit that in the past I've bought many hair accessories and headbands because they're cute but never actually worn them. However recently I've got into wearing them and I'm really loving how they look. They brighten up the most boring outfits, can cover a bad hair day and are so cute and summery it's impossible not to love them!

As a lover of nail varnish, bright polishes are definitely one of my summer essentials. These three are a few of my favourites at the moment although I've got my eye on the Models Own Polish For Tans collection!

How amazing is the gorgeous weather we've been having?! It makes such a nice change to be able to wear fun summery clothes at last. Although I'm not getting my hopes up that it'll last just yet.

I've had this skirt for a good few years, it's one of those that's so simple and such a perfect fit that I bring it back out every summer without fail! The top however, is a recent addition. I'd been looking for a classic sleeveless white shirt for a while and came across this one for £7.99 in H&M. It's difficult to see in the pictures, but it has a kind of textured detail which is a cute little addition.

Rather than wearing sandals I really like pumps with little socks. Frilly socks in so many colours and patterns are on the high street right now and they're so adorable I could definitely get addicted to buying them! As I'm not quite brave enough to do the socks and sandals thing I definitely think socks and pumps are a great way to do this cute trend.

Boots Seventeen Gel Effect in Long Island

This is one of my absolute favourite nail colours at the moment and I've been wearing it a lot. It's such a simple but chic colour! I love the little daisy nail art at the bottom, I think it adds a little bit of summer.

I find the formula and quality of the Seventeen Gel nail polishes to be really good. For me it lasts at least 5 days with minimal chipping and also applies really nicely to the nail. This colour definitely needs at least two coats though; it's pretty transparent after only one!

I did a post last week about how to do a few simple nail designs like this which you can find here if you fancy having a go yourself. Let me know if you give them a try!

Trend of the Week | Neon Brights

Playsuit | Jeans | Sunglasses | Top | Nail Varnish | Platforms | Handbag | Clutch

Neons are always great for summer because they're bright, happy and sunny! I love how you can go full-on neon for an evening out with the gorgeous playsuit from New Look or more subtle with neon accessories. As British weather can't be counted upon, neon accessories such as the bag or sunnies are perfect ways to brighten up your look even when it's chilly outside. A purse-friendly way to do the neon trend is to do it with nail polish! This mega bright polish is 'Flip Flop' from the Models Own Polish For Tans  collection. I really love all the neon items around right now - they make me feel happy and summery just looking at them!

Skirt - New Look
Belt - New Look (with the skirt)

Watch - River Island

This is the outfit I wore when I went to dinner with a few friends. I wanted something that looked like I'd made an effort without wearing a dress. I haven't worn this skirt a lot since I got it, but I think I will now. I really love the waffle texture - as it's a bit heavier it makes the skirt hang nicely and just adds a little something else. I also really like the belt that came with it.

I teamed it with a little lace/crochet top that I found in my wardrobe. I've had it for a while and it did come with an undertop in the same colour but I seem to remember it being uncomfortable and didn't sit right so I cut it out and now just wear a vest top underneath. In outfits like this I tend to keep details subtle like the little gold necklace from H&M and the detailing on the belt.

How-To: 3 No-Tools Nail Art Designs

Love From Lisa How-To No-Tools Nail Art
Love From Lisa How-To No-Tools Nail Art
A lot of the nail designs I do are ridiculously easy and don't require any special nail art tools or pens at all! So I thought I'd share some of my favourite nail designs with you. These are just examples - if you've read my blog for a while you'll know I mix up these designs - sometimes I have just one heart, a single flower or use the designs on an accent nail. Once you've mastered the basics there are so many designs to try!

Love From Lisa How-To No-Tools Nail Art
This is all I use for creating these simple nail designs. Just a small blob of the colour you want to use and an opened out bobby pin. I dip the rounded end of the straight side into the polish and apply to the nail. It does take a bit of practice to know what pressure to use to get the same sized dots, but apart from that that's all there is to it! Depending on how long it takes to do each nail you might need to do a new blob of the nail polish. It tends to dry up quickly in the open air which makes it gloopy and hard to work with! So after every few nails I use a new blob of nail varnish.

Love From Lisa How-To No-Tools Nail Art
This is the most complex. The most important thing to remember is to space the red dots far enough apart to allow for the white petals! Plenty of times I've ended up with squished flowers! The polka dot pattern needs no explanation really! The heart design is created by making V shapes with the end of the bobby pin. This one takes a bit of practice to get them even but once you've put a topcoat on it tends to neaten them up a bit. Remember practice makes perfect!
